Training on community-based disaster risk management - climate change in Thua Thien - Hue province
On September 3, 2020, the GCF Project Management Unit on Climate Change in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program and the Component Project Management Board of Thua Thien - Hue Province organized a training of trainer course (TOT) on Community-based natural disaster risk management - climate change in Thua Thien - Hue province.
This activity is carried out within the framework of the project "Improving the resilience of vulnerable coastal communities to climate change related impacts in Viet Nam" (GCF Project Resilience to Climate Change) funded by the Green Climate Fund through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). As planned, the TOT is scheduled to be held in July, but due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the TOT has been pushed back to mid September 2020.
Participating in the TOT were representatives of agencies related to disaster prevention in Thua Thien - Hue province such as provincial Standing Office of Disaster Prevention, provincial Department of Irrigation, Provincial Red Cross, and representatives of Phu Loc, Quang Dien, Phu Vang, Huong Tra districts.
At the TOT, participants also agreed on the responsibilities of related parties; updated knowledge on climate change, community-based disaster risk management and climate change, incorporating contents of safe houses and mangrove restoration for provincial officials ; unifying and guiding the process of integrating and integrating natural disasters and climate change into socio-economic development planning and integrated communication activities, and at the same time unifying the training and evaluation plan of community-based disaster risk management - climate change for districts and communes in Thua Thien - Hue.
At the TOT, the Trainers introduced the 6-day CBDRM training and assessment program at the commune level and guide the implementation method, introduced the Risk Information Package, and instruction and practice of the disaster risk- climate change assessment tool, guided the process of Integrating the content of disaster risk control and CCA into socio-economic development plans, etc.
The TOT will be held in 3 days from September 16-18, 2020. After the provincial training class, the GCF project will expand the training activities to 4 districts and 20 communes in Thua Thien - Hue, expected during October-November, 2020.
