UNDP supports Viet Nam to respond effectively to climate change, natural disasters and ensure environmental sustainability. Under the One Plan 2017-2021, UNDP supports Viet Nam to accelerate its transition to a low-carbon economy, and enhance its adaptation and resilience to climate change and disaster risk.

Climate Change and Resilience Information Management

Output 3: Increased access to enhanced climate, loss and damage data for private and public sector application in all 28 coastal provinces of Viet Nam

Access to data is a key issue and there is a need for an improved government risk data repository. The project’s holistic approach will integrate Output 1 and Output 2’s data into Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction, that will then inform government investment planning at both a national and local level.

With GCF funding, the UNDP project will also make information more accessible to government decision makers. This will be done by combining local knowledge with the best scientific data to develop and produce risk mapping of the entire coastal area.  With improved data available, better climate change projections can be generated, helping Government policy-makers produce transformative policies that will protect coastal communities’ livelihoods now and for future generations. The improved climate related loss and damage data has far reaching uses in government planning, but also in the private sector where it can help for example in the pricing of insurance products or financial risk sharing and transfer tools.
